Junior Reps Score Draw & Loss Against Manly

South Sydney’s SG Ball (under 18s) and Harold Matthews Cup (under 16s) squads scored a draw and a loss respectively playing against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles over the weekend at Brookvale Oval.

In the SG Ball, the Matt King coached Rabbitohs matched the Sea Eagles point for point as they scored five tries and three goals to mirror Manly’s own score-card in a 26 all result.

The result means that the Club’s SG Ball side remains undefeated so far in 2016, with three wins and a draw. But for Coach King, the result highlights the fact that more work needs to be done – the former Rabbitoh stressing the need to live up to the team’s own high standards.

“I think we’d all agree that we didn’t quite play to our standards and that put us under pressure,” said King.

“Because of that, we got into a dog-fight and eventually had to settle for a draw. We showed glimpses of what we’re capable of as a team, but we need to be able to show that for the full 70 minutes.

“We have our biggest test yet this week against Newcastle in Newcastle, so we’ll be looking to live up to those standards in everything we do this week as we prepare for that game.”

Meanwhile in the Harold Matthews Cup, the Jason Peterson coached Rabbitohs went down to a well-organised Sea Eagles outfit by 34-8 – Souths players Dalton Armstrong and Paul Turner scoring the side’s two tries.

The Junior reps competitions are now at their half-way point, with just five matches remaining before the 2016 Finals Series is played – the Grand Final set to be played on Saturday 7 May, while the subsequent National Final is slated for 14 May.
