Tracey eyeing first team spot

South Sydney Rabbitohs young gun Connor Tracey is determined to put his injuries behind him and force his name firmly in Head Coach Anthony Seibold’s thinking for 2018.

Coming back from a lengthy stint on the sidelines the dynamic halfback is looking to really make his mark in first team training sessions.

“It’s been good just getting back with the boys this preseason, I’ve come into training 100%, it’s been really good to get that consistent preparation,” said Tracey.

“Being out of the game for so long with injuries I just want to put a consistent year together and push for a first grade spot.”

“Damien Cook and Connor Tracey have come back and have just been the lead runners since day one.”

At just 21 years of age, Tracey hasn’t had the best luck with injuries with back-to-back ACL tears but according to Player Evaluations and List Manager Mark Ellison, he is on his way back to his best.

“All the boys have come back at a pretty good level and they’re training really well, but the likes of Damien Cook and Connor Tracey have come back and have just been the lead runners since day one,” said Ellison.

Running alongside Rabbitohs hooker, Damien Cook, Tracey confirmed their on field bromance has made his recovery process easier.

“Cookie and I like to push each other,” he said. “We always get next to each other in the fitness and try to push each other along.

“Being able to watch what [the seniors] do with the technical side of footy has real helped me.”

“One time I went over to the other side of the field and he said he couldn’t see me so we moved back together, we always try to get the best we can out of every session.”

After spending some time overseas, Tracey is now back where he belongs and training next to some of the best mentors in the game.

“I’m a massive NFL fans and college football fan so I went over there and saw the Dallas Cowboys play the Packers and it was an unreal game,” Tracey added.

“But it’s good to be back, working off Reno (Adam Reynolds) and Cody (Cody Walker) and guys like that who are just really smart with their footy and being able to watch what they do with the technical side of footy has real helped me.”
