Sutton Just Excited to Play Footy

Rabbitohs forward John Sutton may be entering his 12th season in the top grade, but the local product is as excited as ever to be strapping on the boots in 2016.

The Souths Junior, who made his debut way back in 2004 against the Brisbane Broncos in Rd 17 of that year, is looking forward to another year wearing the red and green beginning with Sunday’s clash against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium.

And with experience comes wisdom – the 105kg forward frank and realistic regarding what his team needs to do to get the win on Sunday.

“We’ve worked on a lot of stuff this pre-season,” said Sutton.

“We’ve just got to do that stuff to the best of our ability – worry about what we can control on Sunday and we’ll be fine.

“Everyone’s enjoying training out here – look at the weather, it’s great. Everyone’s just excited to play some footy.”

Sutton will have some welcome and familiar firepower alongside him in the forwards, with Sam Burgess set to play his first NRL game for the Club since the 2014 Grand Final.

Sutton spoke to the media today (Thursday) about what Burgess has previously brought – and is currently bringing – to Redfern with him.

“He’s a quality player and bring a lot of energy to our team,” said Sutton.

“The boys love playing alongside him so it’ll be good to see the big fella back this week. His runs inspire you to do better and his defence is great.

“He’s just one of those players who has been great for us since he’s been back.”
