Souths Cares in partnership with Wanta Aboriginal Corporation hosted a group of 20 Aboriginal high school students yesterday for a VIP tour of the Rabbitohs High Performance Facility.
The 20 students came from the remote Aboriginal communities of Yuendumu and Arlparra in the Northern Territory, some 2,000km away from Redfern.
The trip to Sydney was about recognizing and rewarding students who had high school attendance and had shown a strong commitment to their education. For most of the students, this was their first trip to Sydney and the group was visiting Taronga Zoo, taking a surf lesson at Manly Beach and attending a boat cruise on Sydney Harbour.
Following the tour the group participated in a workshop with Souths Cares Ambassador Beau Champion, discussing the importance of education and setting goals.
Wanta Aboriginal Corporation CEO Matthew White explained the excursion was extremely valuable for the group.
"All the students here today have shown great commitment to their education already, and getting to meet some Indigenous role models at the Rabbitohs really emphasizes that anything is possible for these young people," said Mr White.
