Souths Cares Launch 2016 Schools Program

Souths Cares and the Rabbitohs will be making a difference in schools again in 2016, with the recent launch of this year’s Schools Program highlighting what’s on offer.

In partnership with NRL Development (NRLD), the Rabbitohs and Souths Cares offer primary and high schools across NSW the opportunity to participate in a variety of engagement programs throughout the school year.

More than 30 school principals and teaching staff from schools across Sydney attended the recent launch of the program for 2016.

“Seeing so many schools wanting to become part of the work we do in community tells me that our reputation in the community is solid and our future is in good hands,” said Rabbitohs Acting CEO, Shannon Donato.

“We had a few familiar faces in the audience but importantly we had teachers attend whose schools fall outside our traditional catchment area.”

Some of the programs on offer to schools include:

•      the Rabbitohs Player School Visit;

•      NRL Fundamental Movement Skills;

•      Backyard League;

•      Beyond the Goalposts;

•      Rabbitohs Primary;

•      Souths Cares Indigenous Oral Health; and

•      Souths Cares Ambassador Program.

“There’s literally something for everyone,” added Shannon.

The Launch was also attended by guest speakers including: Rabbitohs Fan Development Manager, Jessica Charbel; Souths Cares General Manager, Brock Schaefer; and former Rabbitoh, NRLD Officer, Paul McNicholas.

Rabbitohs front rower, George Burgess, was also on hand to speak with the teaching staff about player involvement and the types of voluntary community work the players regularly carry out.

The Rabbitohs Friendly School Program has been running for a number of years and the Rabbitohs, Souths Cares and NRLD are now working together to provide diverse community and development programs to schools.
