Burgess - No Better Challenge Than Cairns

Rabbitohs forward, Sam Burgess, feels his side will improve on their recent performances and help John Sutton celebrate his 250th game when they take on the North Queensland Cowboys at Barlow Park on Sunday.

The England international was full of praise for Sutton, highlighting the role that the veteran plays within the playing group as well as the significance that the upcoming milestone holds for both the Souths junior and the Club.

“It’s a great milestone for him and the Club being the first player to do it at South Sydney,” said Burgess.

“Especially with the history and how long this club has been going, it’s just a credit to John and shows how tough the game is and what it demands from the body.

“John is an extremely senior player in the group, he’s been through some of the tough years – some of the worst years at Souths – and he’s experienced some of the better years as well, so he knows what works and what doesn’t.

“He’s obviously a dominant voice and controls that left edge, he’s a huge part of the team and it’s been great having back over the past couple of weeks and I think he’ll be looking forward to a good game on Sunday in Cairns.”

Despite failing to secure the desired results in recent weeks, Burgess believes that his side has been making improvements and is looking forward to heading to Cairns to take on a strong Cowboys outfit.

“Obviously we’re not where we would like to be. We understand that and are taking full responsibility for that,” said Burgess.

“Certainly the guys have been putting in the effort, now it’s just about converting that into a full 80 minute performance. There’s no better week to do it than in Cairns against the reigning premiers.

“It’ll be a great challenge for us, but we’re looking forward to it,

“They’re a quality team, they have quality all over the park.”
