John Joseph Lintmeijer was born in 1972 in Sydney and he was a Gymea Gorillas junior, playing over 200 games for the club. In 2012 the club celebrated their 50th anniversary and chose their best ever side. Mr Lintmeijer was selected on the wing, along with two other former Souths players in Jesse Caine (centre) and Greg Nixon (five-eighth). Bill Anderson who coached Souths from 1980 to 1982 was selected as their best coach.

In 1989 the speedy winger represented Sydney Under-17s and also NSW Under-17s. Souths graded him in 1992, and in the two seasons he spent with the Rabbitohs he played in 49 grade games, scoring 20 tries. He made his first grade debut in 1992 when he came on as a replacement against Wests at Sydney Football Stadium (Round 21), and after playing in 10 games in the top grade his career almost ended after being diagnosed with a serious kidney disorder. His first grade player number at the Rabbitohs is 821.

Mr Lintmeijer battled on with his disorder and later played lower grades with Wests Magpies, Illawarra Steelers and Newtown Jets. While he was with the Jets he also represented Sydney Metropolitan in 1997 and 1998 against the Brisbane Capitals, which was made up from reserve grade players in both cities.
