Deadly Youth Mentoring Participants Rewarded for their Commitment to the Program

Souths Cares Deadly Youth Mentoring Program continued to support participants throughout the school holidays with structured social activities, individual mentoring and ‘Back to School’ grocery and resource packages to maintain engagement and ensure a successful start to Term 1 schooling.

Last Friday three participants were rewarded for their hard work and commitment to the mentoring program with a day out Go-Karting followed by lunch at Hyperkarting in Moore Park. Tate Walker, Matari Brough and Markell Laurie-Kemp have all been making great progress to achieving their goals and went head-to-head with Souths Cares Mentor Yileen Gordon on the Go-Kart track.

All three boys showed some promising driving skills, but it wasn’t enough to beat Yileen Gordon to the checkered flag on the day. Gordon explained he is extremely proud of these young mentee’s growth and commitment to the intensive mentoring program.

“It was a great day which was made even more enjoyable knowing the boys had fun and got to experience something new. Days like today are about rewarding our program participants for the hard work and the sacrifices they have made throughout the program”, Yileen said.

Tate Walker explained the activity was great fun and hopes to return soon.

“Racing the go-karts was heaps of fun today and I would love to come back here with my friends. Big thanks to Buddy for taking us out and offering these opportunities”, Tate said.

With Term 1 commencing this week, the program will be back in schools supporting participants with school attendance and achieving their education goals. For more information about the Deadly Youth Mentoring Program, including referral criteria click HERE
