Souths Cares Support Students with a Hands-On Career Experience

Souths Cares Liverpool Opportunity Hub recently accompanied program participants to a Western Sydney Airport Career Experience day hosted at Prairiewood High School. The Career Experience was facilitated in partnership with Training Services NSW who have continued to provide program participants with opportunities since the launch of the Liverpool Opportunity Hub in 2020.

The Career Experience was aimed at students in years 10, 11 and 12 and provided them with a hands-on experience of career pathways which will be available through the Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis once construction is complete.

Various businesses such as DHL, FedEx, Wymap, Menzies Aviation, MSS Security and Border Force hosted interactive stalls which gave students a feel for the transport and logistics industries. Sydney Flight Training, Qantas and Cathay Pacific took the students on a simulated journey through the airline industry.

The Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education, The Hon. Dr Geoffrey Lee attended the event and spoke with students about their career aspirations and opportunities available to them through the Western Sydney Airport.

Chad Daniels, a Year 10 student at Patrician Brothers Fairfield and a Liverpool Opportunity Hub participant explained the Career Experience gave a fascinating overview of a ‘day in the life’ of different industries.

“The new Western Sydney Airport will be providing a lot of employment opportunities for the local community and I really enjoyed visiting each stall and learning about the different responsibilities each employee has and what a typical work day is life for them”.

Kelly Pulevaka, Program Coordinator of the Liverpool Opportunity Hub stated the event was a great success and was a collaborative effort between multiple agencies.

“The Liverpool Opportunity Hub continues to support program participants be the best they can be and to take advantage of all the exciting career opportunities which are right here in their own backyard.

“I would like to thank Training Services NSW and Western Sydney Airport for the opportunities such as this career experience given to our students, their support is vital to the success of our students and the Liverpool Opportunity Hub”.
