On This Day: The last Premiership match at Redfern Oval was played

On this day in 1996, the last Premiership game was played at Redfern Oval with the Rabbitohs beating the South Queensland Crushers 48-16.

Three Rabbitohs players picked up doubles in that game; Phil Howlett, Geordi Peats and Will Robinson. Craig Field, Marty Moore and David Penna also crossed for the Rabbitohs with Field kicking six goals.

In 2007 major developments began to refurbish the ground into a top of the line training base.

Today Redfern Oval is known as Metricon High Performance Centre and is still the home ground for junior reps and Pathways competitions while being the main training facility for the NRL side.
