Souths Cares Launches the Liverpool Opportunity Hub

Souths Cares have launched a brand new initiative in partnership with NSW State Training Services to support Aboriginal school students in the Liverpool Local Government Area.

Known as the ‘Liverpool Opportunity Hub’ the program will provide holistic support for students from grade five until after they finish school and transition into education or employment.

Kelly Pulevaka has been appointed in the role of Program Coordinator and has a seen first hand the impact of Souths Cares mentoring programs.

“I had my own children involved in Souths Cares School-to-Work program and saw the positive outcomes these mentoring programs can achieve," said Mrs Pulevaka.

"Making a difference within the Aboriginal community is something very important to me and the Liverpool Opportunity Hub will provide opportunities for our youth to achieve great things.

Also joining the team is Kiara-Bree Drummond in the role of School Programs Officer who was excited about her new role with Souths Cares.

“My role involves supporting students to achieve their education goals and to connect with their culture," said Ms Drummond.

"I’m excited to make a difference in my community and encourage our students to dream big!”

The Liverpool Opportunity Hub has been met with strong demand from the local community, with the Souths Cares team working in partnership with a number of schools in Liverpool LGA including:

  • Miller Technology High School
  • Cecil Hills High School
  • Hoxton Park High School
  • Dalmeny Public School
  • Busby West Public School
  • Greenway Park Public School.

While the COVID-19 coronavirus has created a number of challenges for delivering in-school workshops, the team is continuing to support students remotely and through other innovative strategies.

The Liverpool Opportunity Hub is currently accepting referrals and is open to any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student in grades 5-12 attending school within Liverpool LGA.
