South Sydney winning Jersey Flegg captain Nick Mougios and hooker Peter Mamouzelos have played key roles in helping Greece reach the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.
Greece have claimed the second-last spot in the tournament after they outclassed Serbia 82-6 in Belgrade.
Greece went into the game on the back of a tough 42-24 loss to Scotland while Serbia was outclassed 86-0 against the Bravehearts.
It was Serbia that shocked the visitors when they scored in the opening seconds of the game but Greece soon took control, scoring six tries to lead 34-6.
Mamouzelos crossed from dummy-half after half an hour of play and a further try saw Greece lead 46-6 at half-time.
The second half was only two minutes old when Cronulla NRL back-rower Billy Magoulias had too much strength to crash over out wide.
The 60 points came up on the hour mark when Mougios palmed off a defender before racing 30 metres to score.
“It was a great experience to come to Serbia and create history. Helping Greece reach the World Cup is incredible,” said Mamouzelos.
Mougios was just as proud, especially from the effort of the local players.
“We had many players turn up to coaching clinics in Athens and the local players that played for Greece never took a backward step,” said Mougios.
