The South Sydney Rabbitohs have pulled off a successful road trip to Wollongong, defeating the St George Illawarra Dragons 28-18 in Round 19 of the Jersey Flegg Cup.
Rabbitohs lock forward Ky Rodwell was instrumental, bagging a first-half double and wrestling back the momentum of the game for his side when they were under the pump early.
The first try of the game was scored by St George Illawarra fullback Cody Ramsey in just the 2nd minute. This was followed by a penalty goal from halfback Blair Wright in the 9th minute, giving the home side an early 6-0 lead.
South Sydney hit back with back to back tries to NSW U20s star Rodwell in the 16th and 20th minutes, picking up where he left off after last week’s massive performance against the Parramatta Eels.
The Rabbitohs continued the onslaught, with Luke Puru and Lachlan Ilias both scoring before halftime to give the away side a commanding 22-6 lead at the break.
Winger Kane Allan scored 2 minutes into the second half to extend his side’s lead to 28 points to 6.
St George Illawarra would not have enough in the tank to get back into the game. Tries to Sam McCann and Blake Barbuto saw them reduce the gap to a more respectable 10 points.
But it was not enough to snare the points from South Sydney, who would end up victorious by 28 points to 18, getting the points this time against the Dragons after their Round 2 draw.

St George Illawarra Dragons 18 (Cody Ramsey, Sam McCan, Blake Barbuto tries; Blair Grant 2, Jayden Sullivan goals)
