Roy reaches out

Patients at the Cairns Hospital were given the South Sydney Rabbitohs treatment by none other than former skipper Roy Asotasi.

Hospitals are not always the best place to be but Roy made the effort to ensure patients across a range of wards were given his warm words of wisdom and encouragement.

"Hospital visits are always a mixed feeling because people are in there for different reasons and certain treatments," said Roy. "On the brightside it puts a smile on their faces by us being there."

One person who was excited about his arrival was 15-year-old Cairns local, Pheonix Boah. After spending the past two nights in her ward with pneumonia, the life-long Rabbitohs supporter had a spring in her step after Roy gave her some words of encouragement and a South Sydney gift bag.

While she was clearly chuffed by Roy's gesture, the visit was equally worthwhile for the former Souths skipper himself.

"It makes their stay or their time in hospital worthwhile," Roy added. "You hear a lot of sad stories but for me it was a blessing to go in there and put smiles on some faces."
