Footy is back - Richard Kennar can't wait!
Richard Kennar says it will be a ‘dream come true’ when he pulls on the Cardinal and Myrtle jumper when the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Wigan Warriors in the first hit out for the 2018 season.
“I’m starting to get goosebumps - I can't wait to put on that jersey,” Kennar grinned.
“There has been a lot of great players that have worn the jersey so to put it on will be a dream come true and I’m really excited.”Richard Kennar
The outside back, who joined the Grand Old Club from the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at the end of the 2017 season, has been working hard in pre-season training to make the breakthrough and become a consistent NRL player. The man himself believes he is in the best environment to achieve that goal.
“I’m really enjoying pre-season so far,” said Kennar. “I can’t wait to play this week and can’t wait to finally touch the ball again and play footy.
“I’ve been real close with some of the boys here. They pretty much welcomed me in open arms since day one and have been doing it still to this day. I’ve been real tight with all the boys and it’s just been fun coming to work every day.
“I didn’t play any grade footy last year so I’m really keen to work hard to play NRL this year.”
While there is plenty of competition for places in the backline, Kennar has earned a place in the starting line up against Wigan. The Victorian junior remains humble ahead of his debut Souths game but he is determined to make an impression.
“My hunger has gone through the roof,” beamed Kennar.
“I just want to get rid of the cobwebs first. The lungs will be a bit fatigued but that’s how it is every first trial but I’m looking forward to playing with the boys. I’ve been training hard with and hopefully get some good combinations and we get ourselves ready for the season.
“I know it will be a tough game but I definitely believe in the boys. With all the preseason we’ve put in and all the hard work we have done, it will be an interesting game so hopefully we’ll see everyone out there to support us.”
