Baby Bunnies Race For NRL Glory

Five of the youngest players ever to pull on a Rabbitohs jumper will make their debut at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

The youngsters will compete in a baby race during half time at tonight's clash with the New Zealand Warriors.

All competitors in the seven-metre crawl will be rewarded with a Rabbitohs commemorative birth certificate and the winner and their family will get to meet the first-grade NRL team after the game.

“Some of the crawlers have reputations for being hot-headed and not playing by the rules - particularly at night - so fans should expect the unexpected,” said Amanda Ianna, Registrar of Births Deaths & Marriages (BDM).

“We want a good clean race and Mums and Dads will be able to intervene with a cuddle or an emergency nappy change if there are any dummy spits or dirty play.”

The Rabbitohs v Warriors match kicks off at the family-friendly time of 6pm.

BDM has sold around 2,800 NRL-themed commemorative birth certificates since the novel product was launched in April last year, with Bulldogs, Sharks and Rabbitohs’ certificates proving the most popular.

“With South Sydney back in form and aiming for three wins in a row, there’s a chance the Bunnies birth certificate could claim the top spot by season’s end,” Ms Ianna said.

NRL-themed birth certificates are available in the colours of all 16 clubs. To find out more, visit: www.bdm.nsw.gov.au or call 13 77 88.
