Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is holding nothing back ahead of our Saturday clash against the Canberra Raiders after recent losses have left nothing to show for closely fought games.
Members can expect a full 80 minute performance from Souths. The Rabbitohs boss has changed things up with a line-up with 10 positional changes, Maguire is trusting his squad to find that spark to push them back into the winners circle.
Adding speed into the forward pack with Damien Cook getting the green light at hooker, Cook’s dynamism has potential to bring new life into the missing flare in attack.
“I think he’s learnt a lot from working with Robbie – Robbie’s experience over the years I can see coming out in Damien now,” said Maguire.
Alex Johnston’s solid early season performances at fullback will be put to the test again as Cody Walker shifts into five-eighth.
“I’d like to give Cody another opportunity at coming into the front line. He’s got a different dynamic. I’m looking forward to seeing Adam [Reynolds] and Cody back together again and getting a bit of spark in our attack,”
“We’ve got a lot of things we need to get right, our consistency in areas of our game. That’s what we’re setting out to do this Saturday: to really build that consistent game.
“We’ve given ourselves opportunities but we haven’t been able to do that right through the 80 minutes.”
Maguire confirmed Captain Sam Burgess will be starting despite talk he will be out for the season and is confident his side will play the style of footy required in the NRL.
“We want to show what we’re capable of doing this Saturday. That’s in our hands now.”
