After finishing packing meals with the Meals On Wheels volunteers, Roy Asotasi continued his tour of community engagement by visiting the Paediatric and Surgical wards at Cairns Hospital.
Arriving just before lunch, Asotasi made his way around the Children's ward to talk and hang out with the families who were facing tough times. Handing out Rabbitohs Caps, posing for photos, signing autographs and sharing a laugh with the patients was the former Rabbitohs way of helping out.
"It's an eye-opening experience. It's confronting seeing three-month old babies fighting illnesses," said Asotasi.
"You've got to realise that not everyone is fortunate, you've got to be grateful for what you've got. It's good to be able to go in and put a smile on people's faces - that's what Rugby League does well.
"Just a visit... it's a small gesture but it means so much to them and I'm really glad I could share this time with these families."
