The Start Of The Game Is Very Crucial: Burgess
Sam Burgess weighed in on the two milestones that will be reached on Sunday with brother George Burgess reaching his 100th game and Dave Tyrrell playing his 150th.
“It’s a great milestone to reach, 100 games and we’ve also got Dave Tyrrell playing 150 so it’s not very often that you get two in the same game,” Burgess said.
“It’s great for both boys and they are looking forward to the game. Milestones are games that you remember and I think my 100th was against Penrith as well.”
Burgess explained that the moment is crucial for the team but he is confident their season is not over yet.
“Results are crucial at the moment and we understand that.
“I wouldn’t say that it’s do or die just yet. We understand our position at the moment certainly and we just really need to work on getting things better at the start of our games and if we get that right who knows where we can go.”
Burgess continued to discuss the start of the game as an area that he believes the side needs to improve on to match their strong finishes.
“The start of the game is very crucial, the possession in those first 30 minutes of the game I think we can improve on. We’ve been finishing games quite strong, coming home strong and if we can work on that we will see how we go.”
After returning from a few days off due to the Bye Round, the team has made only minor tweaks and Burgess explains the competitive nature arising at training.
“We’ve tweaked a few things here and there but nothing drastic. After a bye you tend to come in and trainings extremely intense and that’s where it has been. It’s been very competitive and the boys have been ripping in.”
With only one Sunday home game in the Rabbitohs 2017 season, Burgess is hoping to see a big crowd out there at ANZ Stadium.
“We’ve played a few Friday night games so it will be nice to play a Sunday afternoon. The guys will be looking forward to that.
“All the families will be down there and hopefully we will get a good crowd.”
Burgess will return to the field after missing Round 15 with a glute injury.
