I'm Proud To Be Representing The Red And Green: Burgess

George Burgess had a chat to Rabbitohs Media ahead of his 100th NRL game this Sunday against the Penrith Panthers at ANZ Stadium.

Named on the side to make his 100th appearance on Sunday, Burgess is honoured to run out alongside teammate David Tyrrell who will also reach a milestone totalling 150 NRL games.

“It feels great, it’s not something you really think about,” explained Burgess.

“The milestones kind of creep up on you. It seems like yesterday that I came to Souths as an 18 year old so I’m pretty proud to be playing 100 games for the Rabbitohs and to be doing alongside David Tyrrell in his 150th as well so it’s going to be a big day for our Club.”

Both players have cemented their achievements with the one Club making the milestones even sweeter for Rabbitohs Members and supporters.

“It means a lot to be playing all my first grade games at the one Club and hopefully I can keep it that way but it’s a great Club and I’m just proud to be here and proud to be representing the Red and Green.”

The day will also mark the Rabbitohs only Sunday home game at ANZ Stadium with Burgess urging families and Members to make it out to the game to cheer on the Red and Green with his own family in tow including oldest brother, Luke Burgess.

“It’s great to have big biffer back and it’s pretty special that he is here for my 100th, he will be there in the crowd with little Gracie and just to play alongside my other two brothers will be really special and be a family affair I’m sure.

“It’s also the only Sunday game this year for us at ANZ Stadium so hopefully it will be a great crowd, plenty of families and plenty of Rabbitohs Members cheering us on.”

Joining the NRL from the Super League in England, Burgess explains the difference in the game with participation sticking out as one that he has noticed the most.

“For me, it’s the participation in the sport over here. The amount of young players playing over here is just so much bigger than it is in England and the talent pools they have here are way better than they are in England and its filters up to the NRL.

“You see how popular it is, it’s all over the T.V. so I think it’s just the number one sport in Australia which makes all the kids want to play it.”
