NYC Starting To Get Rewarded For Their Hard Work: Carr

Rabbitohs NYC Head Coach, Ryan Carr, is pleased with his team’s performance to date in the Holden Cup despite a challenging start to the season.

“We’ve had a really good last month of footy,” said Carr.

“We put three wins together heading into this weekend’s bye which is really pleasing for the boys.

“It was probably a challenging first part of the year for the squad, the results didn’t quite go our way but the effort was always there and the boys always had a great attitude from day one which was really pleasing.”

The squad has been plagued with a number of injuries in the first half of their season resulting in a large turnover of players. However, Carr explains that the circumstances have opened up great opportunities for other players to step up and take on those roles.

“We’ve had a lot of injuries up to date, I think there was up to 12 injuries at one stage there from our team so the squad turnover has been quite large.

“But with that comes great opportunity for other players and some guys have really stepped up and are taking their opportunity which is really good to see.”

Carr backs his team’s efforts and hard work that are seen each week and explains his aim to keep the team in a positive mind set on and off the field.

“I just want the boys' attitude to stay really positive which they have been and that is great.

“They’ve been working really hard and are starting to get the rewards for their hard work and for me it would be really pleasing just to see them keep developing and growing as players and keeping that really good attitude both on and off the field.”

NYC Assistant Coach Ben Lowe backs Carr’s statements and believes developing the players on and off the field is an important aspect of his position at the Club.

“We are trying to help develop these kids not just individually but as a team,” explained Lowe.

“We want to make sure these kids are growing into good footballers, good people and all-in-all enjoying what they are doing.

“This game can give you so much and be so kind but it at the same time can be quite brutal and I believe you’ve got to have the right people and support network around you to be able to cope with both sides of that on and off the field.”

With the first half of the season complete, the NYC team are focusing on each week and game as it comes and not looking too far ahead.

“We are a young team so I just hope that we just keep improving each week, take each game as it comes,” Carr said.

“We are not looking too far ahead. We look at each team we are up against each week and just try and be at our best for the week for whoever turns out on the park for us.”

The Rabbitohs NYC team will take on the Brisbane Broncos in their next match in Round 14 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
