Entering into his fourteenth season with the Rabbitohs, John Sutton is excited and looking forward to another year with his South Sydney side.
“We’ve got a lot of young blokes in the squad, they keep me young,” Sutton said.
“I enjoy coming in every day, training with the boys and getting to play on the weekends so I’m really looking forward to it.”
With changes to staff and the addition of new players to the squad, Sutton is pleased with his preseason training and is looking forward to getting back out on the field for round one.
“It’s been really good, we’ve had some new people come into the Club and we’ve done some different training which has been helpful for me.
“It’s been a long preseason and I’m just excited to get out there and play some footy with the boys.”
Despite the absence of Adam Reynolds and unsure of where Michael Maguire will field his players on Friday, Sutton has faith in both his coaches and teammates to come up with a game plan.
“We don’t know who is in the halves yet but we will come up with a game plan for the Tigers and work hard on it this week.
“I’ve played there a lot so I don’t mind going back and playing in the halves but whatever happens I’m easy either way.
“Luke Kelly has been training out there so that’s another option for Madge.
“He has played there all his life, he’s really been good this preseason so if that’s the way Madge goes I know he will do a good job.”
Describing Robbie Farah as a player who will bring experience, control in the forwards and a great kicking game, Sutton thinks he will be a great addition to the team.
“Experience, getting the forwards around the park, he’s got a great kicking game as well so he is going to be really good for us.”
But Farah isn’t the only hooker Sutton is commending, describing Damien Cook’s performance in the Charity Shield as awesome.
“I thought it was awesome. Cookie’s got that explosive speed, when he came on he set up that really good try for Burnsey (Braidon Burns) so seeing what Madge is going to do there, it’s exciting.”
