South Sydney Tarsha Gale Cup Team

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be proudly represented in the Tarsha Gale Cup, an under-18’s Women's nine-a-side competition.

The competition comprises of nine teams competing over a nine-week period alongside the Harold Matthews and SG Ball competitions.

Coach Milton Dymock, brother of former Rabbitohs players, Jim and Angelo Dymock stepped up to take on the role as coach after hearing about the team being formed.

“I coach around here in the local district for South Eastern and at the same time I’ve been involved with footy around here,” said Coach Dymock.

“There was interest going around to enter a team and so I put my hand up and thought I would give it a go.”

With most girls already involved in other sports including touch football, rugby union and Oz tag Coach Milton believes the side is going to do well going into their first game on Sunday and describes it as a massive opportunity for the girls.

The mastermind behind forming the team, Moniqca Moale, decided to establish a South Sydney side despite being unable to play due to an injury.

“I heard about the Tarsha Gale competition and I really wanted to play but I have an injury that has stopped me from doing so,” said Moale.

Seeing the competition as an opportunity for girls to play alongside the boys in the SG Ball and Harold Matthews competitions, Moale is looking forward to the season commencing for not only this year but for many more to come.

“It’s amazing, I can’t wait for it to develop furthermore,” Moale said.

“I have a little sister and I’m glad she will be able to play further down the track.

“I really believe in this group of girls, if I didn’t I don’t think I would be here but I really believe in this group and am looking forward to the finals.”

Teammate Helen Fonokalafi backed Moale’s words with high hopes for the season.

“I think we will go well, we have a lot of speed and skills so we will see how we go,” Fonokalafi said.

“We are really excited, most of us have played together in union and tag so it will be good to play league with them and see what we can work towards.”

The South Sydney team will play in their first match on Sunday 12 February against the Illawarra Steelers at WIN Stadium in Wollongong. UPDATE - Round One has been CANCELLED in accordance with NRL Heat Guidelines.
