With the 2017 season just around the corner, Rabbitohs front rower George Burgess believes that there is a strong sense of enjoyment and positivity around the playing group.

Despite not taking part in the Auckland Nines over the weekend, the English international has been relishing his time on the training paddock in preparation for the oncoming season.

“It’s great to be back, back around the boys,” said Burgess.

“We’re all ripping into training, so it’s a really good environment and it’s good to get back into my routine and I’m really enjoying getting back fit again.

“My body is feeling great and a big improvement from last year, so I’m pretty excited.”

The pre-season period has also seen the introduction of a number of new members to the Rabbitohs squad – something Burgess knows has contributed significantly to the positive vibe around the Club.

“The new faces have been a great addition to our squad, like the two Robbie’s (Farah and Rochow).

“They’ve just been great around the team and good for our culture.”

Although his side is deep into their preparation for 2017, Burgess is adamant that they must remain focused and continue to work consistently as a unit.

“We need to be getting things super tight for the game.

“We’ll just keep working on the combinations that we have in training and every chance we get to improve ourselves on the field or in the gym, we just want to make the most of it.”
