NYC Rabbitohs Fall Short Against Bulldogs
The Rabbitohs NYC team finished off their season tonight (Friday) with a 44-20 loss to a strong Bulldogs side in the Holden Cup at ANZ Stadium.
The Rabbitohs came out firing and were the first to land a four-pointer through Maia Sands crashing over the line from dummy half in the third minute of play. Chad O’Donnell don his special left boot and slotted the conversion right through the uprights to bring the Rabbitohs into an early lead six points to nil.
Both teams proved strong in both attack and defence over the next ten minutes until the Bulldogs responded with not just one but two tries to Joseph Tramontana. Both conversions were successful and the Bulldogs led 12 points to six.
The leaders extended their six point lead with another try, this time to D’Rhys Miller in the 21st minute. Although the conversion was unsuccessful, it didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to slip through the Rabbitohs defence twice more leading 28-6 at the completion of the first half.
The Rabbitohs opened the scoring in the second half when a sweeping Tarquinn Butler run to the right edge found a bigger enough gap for him to muscle through to ground the ball.
An almost identical play minutes later saw Butler go over for his second try and nudge the Rabbitohs closer to the Bulldogs 28-16 lead.
The Bulldogs put themselves comfortably ahead through two more tries late in the second half but the Rabbitohs hit back when a chip to the right hand corner found Bailey Shaich-Wise who slammed the ball down on the try line.
It was the Bulldogs who finished off the scoring for the night landing a try on full time and leaving the Rabbitohs behind 44-20 at ANZ Stadium.
