Rabbitohs Add David Furner and Paul Devlin To Coaching Staff For 2017 Season

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have made a number of changes to the Club’s coaching staff for next season, bringing in experienced coach David Furner as Assistant Coach to Head Coach Michael Maguire, and Paul Devlin as the Club’s Head of High Performance.

David Furner is a very experienced coach having previously been Head Coach of the Canberra Raiders for five seasons, Assistant Coach at the Raiders for three years, Assistant Coach at the North Queensland Cowboys for three seasons including their premiership year in 2015, and Assistant Coach of the Australian Kangaroos for six years under Tim Sheens.

Furner also had a glittering playing career playing over 300 first grade games across Australia and the UK, winning premierships in both hemispheres, as well as representing New South Wales in State of Origin and Australia at an international level.

Paul Devlin has vast experience in high performance management and strength and conditioning around the globe, including having been the Physical Performance Manager at the Parramatta Eels for the past two years.

Previously he was the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Melbourne Storm, the Head of Strength and Conditioning for Hull FC in the Super League, Head of Strength and Conditioning for the Doncaster Knights Rugby Club, and Nutritionist for the Cornish Pirates Rugby Club.

Devlin has also played Rugby League and Rugby Union across Europe for clubs such as Widnes, Sale Sharks, Munster, Sporting Club Albigeios and Cornish Pirates.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire says these are important appointments for the Club.

“These men have vast experience in coaching at the elite level and in their areas of expertise, and they are seen as leaders in their field amongst their peers,” Coach Maguire said.

“We’re looking forward to having them join our squad for the 2017 pre-season.

“With four games remaining this season, we are committed to focussing week-to-week on the job at hand, and in time we will pay tribute to, and recognise, the staff that made such a big contribution to this Club reaching the pinnacle of winning its 21st Premiership.”
