Souths Cares Assist Young Members

Souths Cares organised a 'Behind the Scenes' tour for aspiring NRL player, Bailey, after his Rabbitohs merchandise was stolen at a game.

Souths Member, Bailey, was celebrating his birthday with his mates at the Rabbitohs vs. Sharks game in 2015 when he and his friends fell victims to theft.

As the group of boys went down to the field to get autographs from the players at the commencement of the game, their bags were rifled through in the stands and Bailey’s new merchandise along with other belongings of his friends were taken.

When Souths Cares heard about the incident, they reached out to the family to offer support and organised a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour of the Simply Energy High Performance Centre for Bailey and his friends.

Yesterday, the boys were met by ex-Rabbitoh, Beau Champion, who led the tour of the facilities. The timing was arranged around team training and the boys were lucky enough to meet some of the players.

Chaperone, Melissa Tonga, said the boys were extremely grateful for the opportunity and commend Souths Cares on their assistance in creating a memory the whole group will never forget.

“What happened yesterday, this is what dreams are made of for some, for our boys. We will never forget and will always be grateful,” Said Melissa.

“All of these things may happen every day for your team [Souths Cares], the players, ex-players and staff of the Rabbitohs, however we were made to feel like one-in-a-million.

“At no point did we feel like it was just another group of people doing what so many before us had done.

“The boys left feeling inspired and hopeful of what they can achieve knowing what they have to put in and the effort they need to make to possibly be a player for the Rabbitohs in their futures.”
