Maguire’s Insights – Rd 19, 2016

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, has given his insights ahead of this Saturday’s Round 19 clash against the Brisbane Broncos at ANZ Stadium.

Coming off the bye in Round 18, a rejuvenated South Sydney Rabbitohs side will return to ANZ Stadium to take on the Brisbane Broncos, bolstered by the return of a number of injured players – a prospect that excites Maguire.

“Obviously, we’re looking forward to getting back into footy,” said the Rabbitohs mentor.

“The boys have had a good break and I’ve got a number of players coming into the squad now with healthy bodies.

“We’ve been through a period for quite some time where we’ve had a lot of injuries, but a lot of those boys are starting to come back now.”

With the inclusion of George Burgess and Adam Reynolds, as well as Angus Crichton on the extended bench, Maguire believes that the increased competition for spots will encourage the playing group to push themselves further.

“That puts some really great competition into what we have as a team,” said Maguire.

“It’s about being able to turn up and perform and that’s something we’re always proud of.”

Despite being boosted by the home fixture and return of injured players, Maguire is under no illusion that the game against the Broncos will be an easy affair.

“Obviously we’re playing against a quality team and we’re looking to playing the way we can,

“We need to go about our game in a very focused fashion and play the way we know we can.”
