Keary – Bye Week a Time to Build

Preparations for South Sydney’s trip west to take on the Gold Coast Titans in Perth are well underway, and playmaker Luke Keary says this week’s bye will only help that.

Coming off successive wins over the Parramatta Eels and St George Illawarra Dragons, Keary says that he and his teammates will be building on the positives of those performances, while seeking to address areas for improvement ahead of the upcoming Titans clash.

“Those games are behind us now and it’s all about the Titans for us,” said Keary.

“We took certain steps in the right direction for sure in those games, but it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t build on that and get even better.

“Heading over to Perth is a great chance for us to do that – we’ve loved going over there and spending the time together the last few years. I’m sure this time around won’t be any different.

“We’ve had some good opportunities in the last few weeks to really look at our game, and I think we’ve benefitted.

“It’s just about doing the same thing this week and continuing to build and grow on that. We’ve had some better performances, but there’s still stuff that we’re looking to work on.

“Defence is a big one, but we’re also looking at getting those completions up where they need to be – that’s something we’ve identified and we’re going to improve it over the coming days heading into Perth.”

But while the Rabbitohs prepare for the Titans, Keary’s good mate and halves partner, Adam Reynolds, will be preparing to face Queensland next Wednesday in Game I of the 2016 State of Origin Series – a fact that Keary and the whole Rabbitohs squad is immensely proud of.

“It’s a great opportunity for Ren,” said Keary.

“All the boys are really proud of the achievement and are really looking forward to seeing what he can do next week.

“Getting an Origin call-up is no small thing – he’s been playing really well for us after coming back from injury, and he’s reaping the rewards for that now.”
