A cheerful Jason Clark strode up to face the Rugby League media this week knowing full well that the stitches on his forehead would be the centre of attention.
“Is this make-up?” he quipped with a grin, prompting laughs from all those assembled before the inevitable questions began.
“The doctor is doing all the right protocols and processes so I should be right,” said Clark in reference to his expected return this week.
“I don’t think head-gear will really do much for it – it won’t cover it – so I’ll do my best to cover it up as best I can. It’s not really that bad – there’s been quite a bit of hype about it – it’s a scar that looks like a baseball.”
Clark is today preparing to find out if he has been selected in Head Coach, Michael Maguire’s team to take on the St George Illawarra Dragons in the Club’s own Indigenous Round this Thursday – an event that will be celebrated in many ways, including with the wearing of special Indigenous jersey.
The 2016 Indigenous jersey is designed by Sydney-based Indigenous designer, Nikita Ridgeway, and tells the stories of six of the Club’s Indigenous players including captain Inglis, Indigenous All Stars representatives Kyle Turner, Alex Johnston, Chris Grevsmuhl and Dane Nielsen, as well as Rabbitohs 2016 debutant Cody Walker.
KARI Aboriginal Resources,will this week feature on the jersey alongside Recognise thanks to Rabbitohs co-major partner Crown Resorts, who have donated their place on the Club’s strip for this week’s Indigenous Round.
“It’s actually quite a big deal,” said Clark in reference to the jersey.
“I’ve grown up with a lot of Indigenous players and have seen them go on and do great things as well – the biggest thing with this jumper is probably the boys that have put into this jumper.
“Nikita has done a great job, and obviously for Crown to donate it (their spot) to KARI and to Recognise is a big deal as well.”
