Rabbitohs front-rower, Thomas Burgess, is looking forward to seeing a big crowd at ANZ Stadium when the Red and Greens take on the Wests Tigers in Round 9 of the Telstra Premiership.
With South Sydney playing their previous two games north of the border in Queensland, Burgess is eager to witness a sea of Cardinal and Myrtle fill ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.
“We’re really looking forward to this one,” said Burgess.
“I can’t wait to get back to ANZ – we’re looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd.”
Despite facing off against the North Queensland Cowboys and the Brisbane Broncos away from home, Burgess has been overwhelmed by the support provided by Rabbitohs Members at foreign grounds.
“We’ve been away, but it’s felt quite homely up in Townsville and then in Brisbane,” said Burgess.
“We had a lot of Members up there and we had a Member’s (signing session) the next day (after the Broncos match),
“It was great to meet all of the Members up there and mingle with them.
“Everyone was really supportive of us even after a few losses – that just shows the spirit of the Rabbitohs Members.”
The encounter against the Tigers will provide South Sydney with an opportunity to repay the faith shown by those Members and supporters, and Burgess knows that improvements will be made leading into the clash.
“I think one thing we’ll concentrate on this week is just getting the little things right – completions, discipline, all that sort of stuff,” said Burgess.
Burgess was a stand out for the Rabbitohs against the Broncos, featuring in the starting team for the second time this season, running for 116 metres with ball the in hand and completing 26 tackles in just 46 minutes onfield.
