The school holidays kicked off in Red and Green style for over 100 kids yesterday, who were on hand at the Simply Energy High Performance Centre, Redfern Oval on Monday to take part in the first Junior Footy and Dance Clinic for the year.

Rabbitohs players such as Adam Reynolds, Alex Johnston, Aaron Gray and Hymel Hunt – to name a few – ran the kids through their paces in a number of drills and games designed to improve their Rugby League skills.

Hunt took the day as an opportunity to connect with those in attendance in the same way he had done as a kid, citing the profound impact kids meeting their heroes can have.

“Similar to me when I was growing up as a kid – you look up to big names,” said Hunt.

“Especially when you meet them when you’re a little kid – it makes their day, it makes their life sometimes. It’s just good for them to meet their idols and muck around and see a different side of us besides the serious side on the field.

Proud Rabbitohs Member, Dane Sara, brought the whole family along from Camden for the day, with son Oscar getting the opportunity to hone his skills alongside some of South Sydney’s best.

The long-time Member said that excitement was high in the car on the way out to Redfern for what was a special experience for the growing Sara clan.

“It’s a long drive in from Camden but the excitement levels were good,” smiled Dane holding his two other children.

“It was constant; ‘are we there yet? Are we there yet?’ – and that was just the wife, that wasn’t even the kids!

“My grandfather played on Redfern Oval back in the ‘50s in these colours and for my son to be able to do it as well – it’s insane, it’s just fantastic.

“And to be able to do it with guys he looks at every week and just worships, it shows him that one day, just maybe he can get there.”

The Clinic was the first of a total of four that will take place in a number of locations, including; ANZ Stadium, North Sydney Oval and St Gregory’s College Campbelltown. Click here to find out more.

The string of Rabbitohs holiday clinics are open to all Rbbitohs fans and are separate to the Club’s Junior Member Holiday Clinic that will take place at a later date – stay tuned to Rabbitohs.com.au for more information.
