Under 18s Through to Finals

The South Sydney Rabbitohs SG Ball (under 18s) team has made it through to the competition’s Finals Series having finished the regular season in fourth position.

The side will now take on the Minor Premiership-winning Newcastle Knights in Week 1 of the Finals at St Mary’s Leagues Stadium this coming Saturday 16 April with kick-off slated for 2:30pm.

The Matt King-coached 18s finished off their regular season playing schedule by downing the Western Sydney Academy of Sport (WSAS) at Redfern on Saturday by 34-20.

Tries to Kobi Hookey, Cam Murray, Rangi-Paoa Boyce, Phoenix Hunt, Henry-Siriah Fuimaono and Mawene Hiroti – who also kicked five goals – was enough to round up the side’s season with seven wins, one draw and one loss.

King and his men are now completely focused on what the former Test winger described as a new competition.

“It’s a whole new ball-game now,” said King.

“That competition’s now over and there’s a new challenge in front of us that starts this week against the best side in the comp (the Knights).

“I think we’ve laid a positive platform during the regular season that we’ll now build on. The boys have shown great character and dedication to our processes. We just need to put that into practice this weekend the way we know we can.”

Souths’ only loss of the season came in Round five against the Knights at Cessnock.

Meanwhile, the Club’s Harold Matthews (under 16s) side wrapped up their season with victory against WSAS by 44-22  – the Jason Peterson-coached side missing out on the Finals by a single point. Indeed their superior points differential (126) could have seen the young-guns finish as high as fourth.

A hat-trick to Reihana Leuli plus a double to Raine Dellow, were a feature for the 16s, with tries also going to Paul Turner, Trevor Joseph Sionetali and Jordan Little. Jenson Taumoepeau rounded out proceedings with six goals.
