Rabbitohs winger, Aaron Gray, says confidence is high heading into this Friday night’s Round 6 clash against the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.
After scoring victory over the Sea Eagles last Thursday night, Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, named his strongest available side for the deciding Ron Coote Cup clash – an outfit that Gray has every confidence will build on their last outing.
“We’re always confident heading into every game,” said Gray.
“Last week we didn’t play to our strengths – we played for about 20 minutes and then we had to chase our tail for the rest of the game, so we’ve got a lot of improving to do for this week, that’s for sure.”
Gray has been named in jumper number 5 for the clash, partnering Bryson Goodwin on the opposite flank as part of a strong back-three that includes Greg Inglis at fullback.
For his part, Gray has never felt better as he looks to contribute to the Rabbitohs 2016 campaign.
“The body’s feeling the best it has for the last couple of years so I’m just trying to stay on top of it at the moment,” said Gray.
“I had a few (surgeries) there for sure. It’s in the past now like everything else. I just leave it there and try and focus on the future and this week.”
The Round 6 clash will be the next in a long line of clashes between the traditional rivals that stretches all the way back to 1908 – the first year of Rugby League in Australia.
“It’s always a good rivalry – it’s been there for hundreds of years now,” said Gray.
“It’s always a good way to play and I played my first game (of the year) against the Roosters when we played them in Round 1. I’m sure it’ll be a great atmosphere out there at ANZ this week.”
