Hat-tricks and doubles, breaks up the middle and speed on the outside – things are travelling fairly nicely, but there’s a long way to go yet!
What’s been particularly pleasing so far this season is that even though we have racked up large scores, we haven’t shut up shop, nor have we let the scores go to our heads. We have had great respect for our opposition, and I think that has shown in the results.
So this week we face St George Illawarra at the SCG. They are none from two and will be seriously looking for a win. We need to be up for it. I feel our boys have their feet firmly on the ground. We love a game at the historic SCG – it is such a breathtaking scene with a lot of feeling, so that will add much to the occasion.
Did you know that Newcastle last week had 46% possession? We scored nine tries off 40 sets, but they had the ball half of the time. Our high completion rate is such a key for us. It just highlights the fact that you can’t win a game if you can’t hold onto the ball.
Our guys look like they are keen to do exactly that. We have Alex Johnston who we all know, knows how to find the line. A game without a try from him is unusual, but if you look elsewhere, we have the likes of Aaron Gray, Hymel Hunt and Bryson Goodwin – all of whom have scored good tries so far this season. That is every winger and centre in both games! Our backs can certainly play, and what they have produced so far this year has got my attention. Fingers crossed this Sunday afternoon our backs can all cross over again!
I am really enjoying this start to the year and look forward to seeing what our boys have in store for us this week! Let’s keep soaring!
Members have reciprocal rights to the game this weekend, so there is no reason not to get out there in numbers against the Dragons. It has been a special start, and I hope all my fellow Members and supporters bring the noise to help the boys over the line.
Let’s go and get it! Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
The Rabbitohs will take on the St George Illawarra Dragons again at the SCG this Sunday. Kick-off is at 4pm. Click here to purchase your tickets!
