Burgess Responds: Batman or Superman?

Asked today (Wednesday) if he was Batman or Superman, Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess couldn’t help taking the opportunity to throw a bit of banter the way of fellow forward and resident Superman-nut, Dave Tyrrell.

“I’m Batman because David Tyrrell is Superman-mad,” smiled Burgess.

“I think if you ask the majority of the team, everyone’s Batman fans just to get on the bad side of David Tyrrell.”

Burgess, joined teammates Alex Johnston, Kyle Turner, and Hymel Hunt today to model this weekend’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice™ jerseys for the clash against the Newcastle Knights.

The Batman and Superman logos – moulded together for the film – will take pride of place alongside the Rabbitohs logo on the Club’s traditional home strip on Saturday, as the men in Red and Green return to ANZ Stadium for their first home game of the new season.

While pleased with Sunday’s win over the Sydney Roosters, Burgess stressed that all the focus has now well and truly shifted to this weekend’s game against the Newcastle Knights, who will this week go in search of their first win of the season.

“That’s been and gone now – you can’t live off recent victories,” said Burgess.

“We trained well yesterday in preparation for this Saturday against Newcastle. We’ve got to go again and prepare as best we can for that.”

Knights coach, Nathan Brown yesterday named a 19-man squad for the match following their 30-12 loss to the Gold Coast Titans in Round 1 on the Gold Coast.

Korbin Sims has been named to start at prop with Kade Snowden shifting back to on an extended bench alongside Sione Mata'utia, Danny Levi and Lachlan Fitzgibbon.

Meanwhile, Pauli Pauli will miss the clash through suspension after taking the early guilty-plea for a dangerous contact charge. Nathan Ross also comes into the side on the wing for Chanel Mata'utia who will miss the game owing to a knee injury.
