Maguire’s Insights – Rd 2, 2016

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, has given his insights into this week’s Round 2 homecoming clash against the Newcastle Knights at ANZ Stadium following the naming of this week’s team.

With a number of injuries suffered in Round 1 against the Roosters – including the loss of halfback Adam Reynolds, and forwards John Sutton and Zane Musgrove – Maguire today named a revised outfit for Saturday’s clash that serves to demonstrate the Club’s depth.

Premiership winning pivot, Luke Keary and English International, George Burgess, both return from suspension this Saturday to fill spots in the halves and forwards – selections that will hold Maguire’s men in good stead this week.

“It was pleasing the way the boys played in Round 1, but it’s about building consistency now in how we go about our game,” said Maguire.

“Unfortunately we had a couple of bumps and bruises there with Johnny Sutton and we’ve got a bit of news about Zane Musgrove – he has a bit of wrist injury that needs surgery as well.

“One thing it does do is it creates a lot of opportunity inside your club. We’ve been building the Club right throughout the pre-season to have some depth, and I believe we’ve got that.

“We’ve got people like George Burgess coming back in and Luke Keary coming back in – obviously seasoned players.

“Nathan Brown – he’s obviously been extremely keen in how he’s gone about his training and he’s another player who gets an opportunity this week.”

Maguire is also looking forward to returning to the Club’s home at ANZ Stadium for the clash for the first time in the new season at the family-friendly kick-off time of 5:30pm.

“Being our first home game, it’s special,” said Maguire.

“I think the afternoon games – as you saw on the weekend – we had high completions inside what we were able to produce against the Roosters.

“We’re looking to obviously back that up and build on that – 5.30 isn’t a bad time.”

The Rabbitohs will wear limited edition Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice™ jerseys against the Knights to celebrate the pending release of the film.

The Batman and Superman logos – moulded together for the film – will take pride of place alongside the Rabbitohs logo on the Club’s traditional home strip, as the men in Red and Green return to ANZ Stadium for their first home game of the new season.

The film will be distributed by Roadshow Films in Australia on March 24, 2016 in 3D and 2D, and in select IMAX 3D theatres.
