Finally, season 2016 is here, and it is shaping up to be a beauty! Our boys have had some much deserved rest, and are ready for what lies ahead!
We have picked up some real good new faces to strengthen the troops and we’ve seen some very promising trial performances that showcased a great deal of depth that will go a long way for us this year.
The Charity Shield was an eye opener for me. Seeing our young, up and coming players muscle up and knock off a strong Dragons outfit was reassuring.
Cody Walker in the halves played with authority, and new recruit, Damien Cook, was dynamite. Bryson Goodwin had a very strong pre-season, and with players like Kirisome Auva’a and Dane Nielsen all fighting for places in the top 17, we haven’t seen the end of the fight for Red and Green jerseys.
After a handful of years where one season must have blurred into the next, Greg Inglis finally got the rest he deserved. As such, I think we may see a fair few extra goannas crawling this season.
With some strong competition out there, like Brisbane, Melbourne, North Queensland and even Manly, we will need to be on game every week.

To help us along the way, we have big Sammy Burgess back in our ranks, and he’ll be helped along by brothers, George and Thomas. They both have a hunger for the try-line, and let’s not forget we have John Sutton with his ability to take on the line and put the defence in two minds.
With Jason Clark – who is looking stronger than ever – and Dave Tyrrell helping push our men up-field, the halves and our outside backs will have plenty of room to move… perfect conditions for scoring tries!
Did you watch Reynolds in the All Stars game? Andrew Johns could not speak highly enough of his kicking game, and if that is any indication of what he has in store for us this year, then we have some exciting games ahead of us.
I think we have a great team and I am excited by our depth. I am super excited to see what our experienced campaigners have in store for us this year, as well as the young guys who will be learning from them. I think we have a great mix that is set to excite!
So let’s not wait any longer. Bring on the Roosters and the 2016 season!
