McInnes Eager to Contribute

With South Sydney’s Round 1 clash with cross town rivals the Sydney Roosters just around the corner, Rabbitohs hooker, Cameron McInnes, is looking forward to taking part in the historic clash and kick-starting the 2016 season.

The Rabbitohs will name their team to take on the Roosters in Round 1 this afternoon, with Club Members set to receive the team direct to their emails via their weekly Bunny Bulletin.

McInnes, a proud local product from the Botany Rams, has shown his eagerness to take part in the game’s biggest rivalry ahead of today’s (Tuesday’s) team announcement, which will also see both sides start their respective 2016 campaigns at Moore Park’s Allianz Stadium.

“Roosters and Souths is always a big game,” said McInnes

“There’s definitely a lot of excitement around it. When I was younger, I always wanted to play in that game, so getting the opportunity would be amazing.”

Despite both teams having a number of key players set to sit on the sidelines through injury and suspension, McInnes is adamant that the game will not lack the quality and passion that has been associated with the clash over the years.

“Any player in an NRL squad is there for a reason and they’ve got players in their squad that will do the job,” said McInnes.

“In Round 1 everyone is excited, so no one is coming out half-hearted.”

With a number of new faces debuting in the red and green throughout the 2016 pre-season, the Rabbitohs rake also discussed the relationship that he has formed with players such as Cody Walker and Damien Cook.

“I played a bit with Cody last year in the NSW Cup and he’s a great player,” said McInnes.

“If he gets named (for Round 1), he’ll do the job for us.”

McInnes was also full of praise for Damien Cook – the man that he will be competing against for a starting role in Round 1 against the tri-colours.

“We enjoy playing together and we’ve been working together closely over the pre-season pushing each other,”

“I’m looking forward to it if we both get named in the team. You need competition to become a better player, so it’s been very good.”
