Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, spoke to Rabbitohs TV following the announcement of his team to take on the Gold Coast Titans at Pizzey Park this Saturday in Queensland.
A near full-strength outfit was named by the Head Coach to make the trip to the Gold Coast, with the All Stars contingent of Greg Inglis, Adam Reynolds and Thomas Burgess all named to play.
In addition, a host of other Rabbitohs will get game time this week including Sam Burgess, who will wear the Red and Green on-field for the first time since 2014.
But while welcome additions to this week’s line-up, Maguire still has plenty to think about following strong performances from his extended squad in last weekend’s Charity Shield.
“It gave me a lot of decisions to make this week,” said Maguire.
“But I’m pleased how the boys showed their character. I think something that the boys are always trying to instil in each other is playing for each other and I thought they did that by the way they defended and pushed hard around the ball when we had the ball.”
With the likes of Hymel Hunt, John Olive, Damien Cook and Zane Musgrove all being handed another opportunity, Maguire spoke of the depth his team currently enjoys and the positive culture of competition it creates within the Club.
“It’s a good place to have all that competition,” said the mentor.
“There’s a lot of staff working hard to ensure that those depths are continually being created for the Club – one thing that brings is obviously the competition amongst the boys, and the boys definitely enjoy that.”
