The Rabbitohs HSC Program is set to get underway at SEDA College, Redfern, in 2016.

SEDA College will provide students entering Year 11 in 2016 with the opportunity to combine their passion for Rugby League with an exciting education pathway.

Souths Cares and SEDA College have developed an innovative partnership with the SEDA Group that allows the school to deliver the SEDA model and its curriculum, with a number of students enrolled to commence Year 11 studies next year.

“You don’t have to be a footballer or a celebrated sportsperson to enrol in the Rabbitohs HSC Program, as students will undertake a range of traditional HSC and VET,” said Souths Cares General Manager, Brock Schaefer.

“Under the leadership of experienced school Principal, Kate O’Donnell, students will complete a curriculum that is built on 50% classroom theory work and 50% practical learning, through industry placement and community based learning experiences.

“This means that students may well find themselves completing their learning on-the-job at either Souths Cares or the Rabbitohs - it is a definite possibility.”

The structure of the program is as follows:

YEAR ONE – PRELIMINARY YEAR (12 UNITS)

Board Developed Courses

• English Studies (2 Units)

• VET Certificate II in Business (2 Units)

• Personal Development Health and Physical Education (2 Units)

Board Endorsed Courses

• VET Certificate II in Sport and Recreation (4 Units)

• Work Studies (2 Units)

YEAR TWO – HSC (10 UNITS)

Board Developed Courses

• English Studies (2 Units)

• VET Certificate II in Business (2 Units)

• Personal Development Health and Physical Education (2 Units)

Board Endorsed Courses

• Sport and Recreation (2 Units)

• Work Studies (2 Units)

Upon successful completion of the two years at SEDA College, students will achieve the following qualifications:

• HSC

• Certificate II in Sport and Recreation

• Certificate II in Business
