Rabbits Roll Into Week 3 of Pre-season Training
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have now rolled into their third of week of preparations for the 2016 season, and are now aiming up for their confirmed pre-season schedule.
At the back end of last week, Members and players got a first look at the final make-up of the 2016 pre-season trial schedule, beginning with the Auckland Nines tournament at Eden Park in early February, where the Rabbitohs will defend their title.
Full-format hostilities as well as the opportunity to play for spots in Michael Maguire’s starting 13 begin on Saturday 13 February, when the 33rd Charity Shield gets underway against traditional rivals, the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The final touches on the Club’s pre-season will be finalised on Saturday 20 February, when the Rabbitohs make the road-trip up to the Gold Coast to take on the Titans at Pizzey Park in what will be a must-perform opportunity for the men in red and green.
But before a ball can be kicked in anger, the business of pre-season training is all that Maguire’s squad is focused on.
“Pre-season is an opportunity for growth in players in all aspects – strength, fitness, mental attitude, skill levels – all the many different characteristics that make up a player,” Maguire told Rabbitohs.com.au recently.
“The pre-season allows you to work on those individual needs and requirements that you’re going to need during a season but also in life. The way you perform in the pre-season tends to play its part later on, so setting the platform early for not only the team, but for the individual, is important at this time of year.”
