Thomas Burgess’ England side stunned top-ranked New Zealand overnight, coming away with a 20-14 Third Test victory to take the Series and the Baskerville Shield by two games to one.
For the third successive Test against the Kiwis, Burgess again made his mark for the team by coming off the bench with some big charges with the ball in hand to help propel the English side to glory.
But victory didn’t come easy, with The Wall of White having to endure a late onslaught from the Kiwis, who scored two tries in seven minutes, only to be denied by a true show of English determination.
While defence was the key feature of Game II at London’s Olympic Stadium – a low-scoring affair with a 9-2 score-line – the DW Stadium instalment boasted all that and more, with Elliot Whitehead and Sean O’Loughlin proving the difference with three tries between them, while Gareth Widdop kicked four crucial goals.
