After a strong 2015 season, coupled with the return of a number of key players this week, Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is expecting a quality Sharks outfit to take the field in Sunday’s Elimination Final at Allianz Stadium.

The Sharks finished in sixth position on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder, and with the likes of brothers, Andrew and David Fifita, as well as Ben Barba set to make returns this week, Maguire is expecting a fired up Sharks outfit.

“They’ve got quality right across the park,” said Maguire.

“They’ve got a forward pack (that’s) big and they move the ball around – Fifita comes into that pack and they’ve obviously got speed on the edges.

“We know what to expect – everyone’s been watching each other for a long time now over the 26 rounds. It’s what you bring between that 80 minutes.”

The Rabbitohs will welcome back a big-gun of their own though in the form of fullback and Captain, Greg Inglis, whose return to the field is a source of inspiration to younger players in the squad according to Maguire.

“Everyone knows what he can bring on that playing field,” said Maguire.

“For our younger guys that are amongst the team, they do look at him and they look up to him and that’s what leadership is.

“I think Greggy brings that presence on the field – he can come up with a certain play when needed. He brings a lot of confidence around the group too.”

Maguire confirmed that the Rabbitohs have enjoyed a good week of preparation for the match, focusing on areas of their game that need improvement.

“It’s up to us how we approach it and I feel the boys have trained really well this week,” said Maguire.

“They understand what we need to do. They take control of everything that goes on around the organisation from accountability – bringing that into these games, it brings a confidence around about our players.

“A number of our players have been through this period now, they know what to expect and they’re really looking forward to obviously the game on Sunday.”
