Souths Cares Ambassador to Spend Time In Community

The Rabbitohs’ most prolific try scorer and respected Redfern community member, Nathan Merritt, has become an Ambassador for the Redfern based charity, Souths Cares.

General Manager of Souths Cares, Brock Schaefer, said that Nathan’s primary role as an Ambassador is to spend time in the community.

“Souths Cares are very proud to have Nathan join our team on a more permanent basis,” he said.

“Nathan is a Rabbitohs icon and well-regarded local so it wasn’t a difficult decision to form a partnership with him.

“Nathan has previously volunteered his time working as a member of our Rabbitohs Aide Program, working with local teachers and students in an effort to engage students in their learning, so he has a very good understanding of our charter and the work we do in the community.”

Brock said Nathan will be actively involved in the community activities each and every week.

“Souths Cares will be utilising Nathan’s profile and talents to deliver a range of health and education focussed community programs,” said Brock.

“Already, Nathan has hit the ground running. He recently delivered three Dream Believe Achieve sessions at Reiby Juvenile Detention Centre, supported our recent Bunny Burger Challenge and was an integral part of our Indigenous Oral Health team visit to the State’s New England region.

“Just last week, Nathan spent the afternoon working with staff at the Redfern Community Centre, supporting their children and youth programs.”
