Rabbitohs speedster, Alex Johnston, says that he is enjoying having the benefits of flourishing combinations in-field as his side prepares to take on the Newcastle Knights at ANZ Stadium this Saturday night.

With Adam Reynolds and Luke Keary combining well in the halves and benefitting from increased game-time, Johnston says he and his teammates in the outside backs are certainly reaping the rewards - Johnston scoring a try in Round 19 at the SCG in part thanks to that combination.

“It’s good when ‘Reyno’ (Adam Reynolds) and Keary are combining as they are and Greg (Inglis) out the back,” said Johnston.

“I really enjoy myself when I’m getting those passes so yeah I love it when everyone’s in the team with those combos.”

Johnston pointed to the Rabbitohs two recent byes as a reason for the freshness in the side as the men in red and green prepare to take on a resurgent Knights outfit intent on backing up their 30-2 victory last week against the Gold Coast Titans.

“After the bye we’ve just collected ourselves and we’re really just looking forward to gaining momentum into the finals,” said Johnston.

“We just took it as getting our bodies prepared and just mentally prepared for that eight weeks to come – it’s all about just trying to take it week by week and trying to get that momentum.”
