Rabbitohs centre, Bryson Goodwin, is expecting a big game this Saturday night at ANZ Stadium when his side take on the Newcastle Knights in Round 20 of the NRL Premiership.
While the Rabbitohs got the two points against the Dragons last week at the SCG, the Knights did likewise by producing a herculean defensive effort to keep the Gold Coast Titans try-less in a 30-2 victory – five-eighth Jarrod Mullen leading the way with a try and try-assist.
The Newcastle side currenty sits in 14th place on the competition ladder.
“They played really well on the weekend so they’ll be another good challenge for us,” admitted Goodwin.
“They have a lot of quality players that can really turn a game, so defensively we’re going to need to be aware and ready to go.”
The Rabbitohs showed flashes of brilliance in their victory over the Dragons last week, with halfback Adam Reynolds taking control of the Rabbitohs back-line along with his partner in crime Luke Keary. Greg Inglis also put his stamp on the match with a number of big plays.
For Goodwin, the improved performance comes down to a combination of things, including the Club’s recent bye weeks. But it’s all about improvement according to the Kiwi centre.
“The byes were nice because they gave us a little bit of a rest up,” said Goodwin.
“Personally I’m looking to build on my own game and those combinations out there. I think that’s the key for us – just working hard on the things we can control in our own roles.
“If we do that, as a team we’ll just keep growing and getting better.
“There’s a lot of improvement to come. The feeling’s always been good all year so we’re just looking to build on that now – the next step is this weekend against the Knights so we want to put in another good performance and get the win.”
