The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ under 20s side has fallen to the Melbourne Storm 38 points to 26 at Gosch’s Paddock in Melbourne tonight (Saturday).

The Rabbitohs poked their noses in front early in the match, but the Storm managed to get back in front and maintain the lead to secure the two competition points.

Melbourne winger Josh Cullen-Minhinnick was the first to score in the third minute before the Rabbitohs struck through powerhouse prop Clayton Williams in the seventh minute. Williams bounced out of three or four tackles in a tough run at the line, with Jordie Hedges’ conversion giving the visitors a six-four lead.

The Storm scored twice more after this through tries to Brandon Manase and Junior Kirisome, establishing a 14-6 lead.

Centre Irae Simone was the next to score for Souths, following some nice hands from halfback Eli Levido in his first game for the Club. Hedges converted to reduce the Storm’s lead to two points.

Cullen-Minhinnick scored twice more to complete a first half hat trick for the Storm, giving Melbourne a 24-12 lead at the break.

Junior Kirisome scored his second try four minutes into the second half, followed by a try to Storm dummy half Connor Donohue, giving the Storm an unassailable 36-12 lead after 49 minutes.

Damon Goolagong would cross for the first of his two tries in the 53rd minute when a handy backline movement saw him touch down in the left corner. Hedges converted from the touch line to take the score line to 36-18.

Right winger Josh Ellison would cross next in the 69th minute, diving over in the right hand corner, taking the score line to 36-22.

The Storm kicked a penalty goal before the Rabbitohs posted the final points of the match through Goolagong in the penultimate minute of the game, finalising the score line at Storm 38 – Rabbitohs 26.

The Rabbitohs were led throughout the match by Clayton Williams who was relentless in attack and defence, but it was not to be for our under 20s in Melbourne tonight.
