John Sutton is edging closer to an NRL return with each day after being sidelined with a fractured jaw – an injury sustained in the Club’s Round two-clash against the Roosters.
Sutton has been a week-to-week prospect for the red and greens as he bids to return to Michael Maguire’s line-up.
“I’ve got to get a scan done later in the week just to make sure it’s healed up properly,” said Sutton.
“I’m just looking forward to getting back and doing some training today.
“Last time I felt pretty close (to a return), but the specialist wasn’t quite ready for me to go back out there.
“He reckons that if I did come back a bit earlier and I did cop a knock it could put me out for three months – I’d rather take another week or two to make sure I’m 100 per cent before I go out there and play.”
Sutton could potentially return to the field this coming Monday night when the Rabbitohs take on the high-flying St George Illawarra Dragons at ANZ Stadium.
“They’re going good,” said Sutton of the Red V.
“They’ve won six straight games and we’ve lost three in a row so we’re looking to bounce back and put in a good performance.
“I think this week is a good challenge for us – they’re leading the comp and playing with a lot of confidence.”
