Rabbitohs players, John Sutton and Kyle Turner, visited Cairns Public and Private Hospital’s today (Friday) to lift the spirits of some very special Rabbitohs ahead of this Sunday’s Round 8 clash against the Canberra Raiders at Barlow Park.

With the help of Souths Cares, both players spent the day with children, many of whom are proud Rabbitohs supporters.

The Rabbitohs duo visited Cairns Public Hospital’s Paediatric Unit, where they saw the hospital’s newly installed playground – a feature sure to bring plenty of joy to children going through a range of ailments at the facility.

Sutton and Turner then visited Cairns Private Hospital’s Oncology Unit, where they met a courageous group of Rabbitohs that John Sutton described as “inspiring.”

“It’s always tough when you’re in hospital,” said Sutton of the visit.

“Walking around here, it’s actually pretty amazing to see how much support the Rabbitohs have, so for us to be here giving back – it’s a pretty good feeling and everyone’s in really high spirits.

“There’s some pretty young kids in Peadiatrics that are doing it pretty tough, but they’re just so strong – it’s really inspiring actually, so we’re proud to be here visiting them trying to bring a bit of joy.”

The visit is just one of a number of initiatives undertaken by Rabbitohs players in Cairns over the last two weeks – Turner spending Thursday immersed in the community.

“The last few days have been an incredible experience,” said Turner.

“As players and as a Club we love to getting out in our local community as Teacher’s Aide’s, or mentors and really try to make a difference.

“Getting the chance to do that up here (in Cairns) as well, is great. Just like yesterday, there’s so much red and green around – you start to understand that we have the chance to do a lot of good in a lot of different places."

The Rabbitohs will take on the Canberra Raiders at Barlow Park in Cairns this Sunday 26 April. Kick-off is at 4pm local time. Tickets can be purchased by visiting now! For more information on game day, please click here.
